Hundreds of local high school seniors recently had a chance to rub elbows with Northeastern Pennsylvania employers seeking to fill open positions.
Seniors from Pittston Area High School, Wyoming Area Secondary Center, Wilkes-Barre Area Career & Technical Center and West Side Career & Technology Center had one-on-one meetings with more than 20 employers at the inaugural CenterPoint Job Fair for High School Seniors held at 159 CenterPoint Boulevard on May 3rd.
The event was organized by The Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, PA CareerLink® Luzerne County, the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board, and Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services. The job fair was held in a Mericle flex building and was organized to help graduating high school seniors learn about local employment opportunities.
Participating employers informed the students about the skills that are required to fill a wide variety of job openings. Some of the positions available at the job fair were inside sales, call center/customer service reps, night auditor, forklift operator, equipment technician, quality control auditors, CNA training program, and entry-level construction.
While many of the students plan to attend college, others plan to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.
